Awesome, energetic show, despite storm
Friday, August 8, 2008 - 12:21 am - bofriend
We were so lucky to even get a show tonight. It really stormed, with high winds and rain. Although it was brief, maybe 25 - 30 mins, the stage was wet, and most equipment had been covered or put away. It was scary when the lighting was whipping around, and parts of the metal stage were lifting off the ground. We were all shooed away from the stage area. Lots of folks took shelter in a nearby building.
The crew mopped up the stage, and reset in record time. So much for sound check (which those of us early birds were privy to), when they got everything perfect (and Bo sang In A Dream). *sigh* The show sounded awesome anyway, and Bo seemed especially happy. A proud new dad again, and it shows.
Bo didn't chit chat much, except to introduce the band, and thank the venue and all the fans for sticking around through the rain. He did mention he had a new baby a few days ago, *lots of clapping and cheers* and he dedicated "I Love The Road" to Caroline, saying (something like) he wrote this song for his wife and sons (as I recall). Bo seemed especially happy and animated during ILTR, and the lyrics are awesome. Love that happy, catchy tune. It keeps going through my head. Got a few chuckles with the NY verse, about getting in the paper, and explaining to his wife, "I'm just havin' fun."
And bless his heart, I never thought there would be a M&G, due to the storm delay, but Bo signed autographs and took pictures with every last fan. I bet there were at least 200 in line. There were lots of new fans of all ages. I met some young girls (11 and 12 years) who were so excited to be there, first time seeing Bo. All 3 of them bought t-shirts and cds. I don't know how many cds Bo brought along, but STL was sold out before the opening band played. It looked like a ton of "swag" was sold, too! Lots of folks were sporting Bo t's, and a couple a guys were all excited sharing their M&G pictures and autographed shirt. One lady bought the smallest pink t-shirt for her 6 month old niece, and planned to make a "onesie" out of it!
It was so generous of Bo to stick around and put on a show after the storm. I thought he might do a few acoustic numbers (like in Huntsville), for safety reasons, and hit the road. He gave us a great, energetic show, in record time. At least 9 songs I recall: Got Money, Ain't Gonna Die, Country, I'm Gone, I Love The Road, Just Got Paid, See The Light, Witness, Whiskey Women & Time. Then sticking around for a M&G, was unbelievable.
Bo is all heart. Even with a few weather related glitches, and confusion over seating, this was a great day, thanks to Bo.
